YOU HAVE MADE ME LIKE GLASS / TU MANI PADARĪJI PAR STIKLU
with Reinis Dzudzilo
All places are filled with many layers of the present. They hold memories—not as depictions, but as impressions of other moments within their walls and floors. These impressions exist invisibly, and when we interact with them, we too become part of this imprint, for a moment or for eternity. Mirrors and glass are similar. They act like impartial observers of the present, yet the thought that mirrors retain a memory on their surface lingers. They are fragile, like photographs that capture something within themselves—a memory of the present.
As a child, I would hold a mirror facing upwards to see another present, simultaneously observing it from my perspective. It was the same reality, yet different and unusual—a present within the present. This playful act created images that felt like paintings or photographs, constantly changing. A mirror becomes a portal to a different yet familiar reality.ALMA gallery in Padure manorCurator: Astrida RiņķePadure manor17 / 09 / 2021 - 30 / 11 / 2021Photos © Krista Dzudzilo
